The short answer
Lumo is the stronger fit if you want one privacy-focused assistant, optional current web search, image tools, and Proton’s documented no-logs, no-training, and no-sharing approach. Signed-in users can search zero-access encrypted history; guest conversations are described as erased at the end of the session.
GPTAnon is the stronger fit if your question benefits from disagreement rather than one answer. Anonymous users receive 20 credits per UTC month, and signing up adds 30 credits to the remaining balance, up to 50 total for that UTC month. Chat, answer comparisons, Debate, and Check are available subject to credit balance; paid plans add credits rather than unlock those workflows.
Neither product removes the need to review a provider policy or verify a consequential answer. Lumo’s claims apply to Lumo’s controlled model path. GPTAnon’s boundary is different: GPTAnon does not keep server-side chat history or send account identity as part of the model request, while OpenRouter and the selected provider still process the prompt.

Privacy depends on the path, not just the label
Proton says Lumo runs its open-source models on servers Proton controls, erases guest-session data at the end of the session, and does not use chats for training or share them. For signed-in Free and Plus users, chat histories are stored with zero-access encryption and can be searched.
GPTAnon makes a different promise. It does not add conversation content to a saved server-side chat history, and the GPTAnon account identity is not sent as part of the model request. The question still passes through GPTAnon, OpenRouter, and the selected provider, so those provider terms remain part of the decision.

Is Proton Lumo private?
Proton documents guest-session deletion, no logs, no data sharing, no training, and zero-access encrypted history for signed-in Free and Plus users. Review the current Lumo privacy and plan terms for the mode and account state you will use.
Does GPTAnon save my conversation?
GPTAnon does not add conversation content to a saved server-side chat history. Prompts still pass through GPTAnon, OpenRouter, and the selected provider, each with separate processing and retention terms.
Can I use Lumo without a Proton account?
Proton’s getting-started guide says you can start a limited chat as a guest. A Proton account unlocks additional features such as searchable, zero-access encrypted chat history.
Which is better for comparing AI answers?

Does GPTAnon send my account identity to the model?
