What "anonymous" actually means here
“Anonymous” describes how you start with GPTAnon, not a claim that every service in the request path has identical data practices. Here is what GPTAnon does and where selected providers fit:
No account required
Open GPTAnon and start chatting without creating an account. Anonymous sessions do not require a GPTAnon account.
No saved chat history
GPTAnon does not add conversations to a saved server-side chat history.
Provider-separated routing
GPTAnon processes prompt content to route the request and return the answer. OpenRouter and the selected model provider receive the content needed to generate the answer and apply their own privacy policies. GPTAnon account identity is not sent as part of the model request. GPTAnon still keeps the account and usage records needed to operate the service.
Why people choose anonymous AI chat
There are search queries you'd rather not have in your browsing history. Questions you'd type differently if you weren't worried about who's watching. Sensitive work topics, personal health questions, legal research, political analysis — conversations that deserve a space where no one is keeping track.

Is anonymous AI chat really free?
Yes — anonymous users get 10 credits per UTC month without creating an account. Create a free account for 50 credits per UTC month, or upgrade to Pro for 1000 credits each billing month across the current active catalog.
If it's anonymous, how do you stop abuse?
Rate limiting by session token. We can throttle misuse without knowing who you are. Anonymous doesn't mean unguarded.
Can GPTAnon see what I'm asking?
Prompt content is processed to generate the response. GPTAnon routes your message to the selected routing and model providers and does not add it to a saved server-side chat history. The providers process the prompt under their own privacy policies — the provider is shown before you send.
Does anonymous mean the AI quality is lower?
The available model and provider are shown before you send. Model availability, capabilities, and provider policies can differ by plan and endpoint.
What about web search? Is that anonymous too?
Private web search uses MIT Tiptoe. It is separate from ordinary model requests; review the Tiptoe research for its documented threat model and assumptions.
