What “anonymous” actually means here
“Anonymous” describes how you start with GPTAnon, not a claim that every service in the request path has identical data practices. Requests pass through GPTAnon API and OpenRouter to the selected provider; here is what each boundary means.
No account required
Open GPTAnon and start chatting. No email, phone number, or password. Anonymous chats are not tied to a GPTAnon account.
Disappearing Chat
Disappearing Chat clears GPTAnon's browser/session copy of a question after you move on. It does not change processing or retention by OpenRouter or the selected model provider. It is included without an account and on Free and Pro.
Who processes your question
GPTAnon processes prompt content through its API and sends it to OpenRouter, which routes it to the selected AI provider/model. OpenRouter and that provider apply their own privacy policies. GPTAnon account identity is not sent as part of the model request. GPTAnon still keeps the account and usage records needed to operate the service.
An anonymous place for questions with context
There are questions you would rather not attach to your browsing history: sensitive work topics, personal health questions, legal research, or political analysis. GPTAnon gives those questions a direct starting point.

Is anonymous AI chat really free?
You can start without an account. Anonymous visitors and Free accounts receive a separate daily Free-usage allowance. Chat and optional Second opinion review are available when Usage remaining covers the quoted action; pricing shows the paid options currently available.
Is GPTAnon a no-tracking AI?
GPTAnon does not save server-side chat history, and usage counting is not linked to conversation content. We still use session-level controls such as rate limiting to keep the service available. OpenRouter and selected providers may have their own logging, retention, and privacy policies; review both policy disclosures before sending.
If it's anonymous, how do you stop abuse?
Rate limiting by session token. We can throttle misuse without knowing who you are. Anonymous does not mean unguarded.
Can GPTAnon see what I'm asking?
For ordinary Chat, GPTAnon does not add conversations to a saved server-side chat history or attach them to your account. GPTAnon account identity is not sent as part of the model request. GPTAnon still keeps the account and usage records needed to operate the service. What about web search? Is that anonymous too?
Private web search uses MIT Tiptoe. It is separate from ordinary model requests; review the Tiptoe research for its documented threat model and assumptions.
